The tale behind Asharun Spices
Every Asharun Spice mix comes with a lot of fresh flavours and plenty of history. In the Punjab region of India, food times have long been a celebration of family ties and forged friendships.
Noisy, colourful and energetic, this approach to cooking was brought over to England in the 1960s by many Sikh families, and it was in this atmosphere that Syndi Duke, the founder of Asharun Spices, grew up memorising her mother’s recipes and techniques.
Originating from Northwest India, a generation in East Africa then migrating to Northern England, those unique mixes of spices have come a long distance, passing from mother to daughter but having lost none of their flavour – or knack of turning a meal into a social gathering with friends and family.
Quality spices are at the heart of Syndi’s cooking, and after many years of entertaining friends with her unique take on classic Punjab dishes, she’s finally launched her own blend of spices to help everyone enjoy a home cooked spicy meal.
Use her prepared packets with full instructions inside on how to cook quick if you can’t wait, or enjoy and take your time, invite the family and friends round and let the spices bubble and infuse as you celebrate your own homemade authentic curry.
